About Our Firm

Skeen & Skeen, P.C.  Creditor Attorney in Denver, founded by Cynthia and Matthew Skeen Sr. in 1984. The firm had its offices in downtown Denver for many years until 2000, when the firm opened an office in Georgetown CO, in the heart of Clear Creek County. In 2008, Ben Skeen joined the firm and we reopened a bankruptcy law office in Denver. Matthew Sr. and Cynthia retired from practice in 2017, closing the Georgetown office and leaving the firm to Matthew Jr. and Benjamin to carry on its legacy of exceptional legal representation.

A Family Business Our family has been a part of the Colorado community since the 1940s, and has strong ties to the state. We have developed many personal relationships throughout Colorado and within the legal community.  In addition, all lawyers at our firm are members of the Skeen family, over two generations. Our bankruptcy attorneys are licensed to practice in Federal court and all courts of Colorado. Our Founders Matthew Skeen Sr. grew up in Denver. After graduating from the University of Colorado he was deployed to Viet Nam. He was enlisted from 1969 to 1972 and reached the rank of 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army Field Artillery. He graduated from the University of Colorado law school in 1975 where he was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Colorado Law Review. He served as a Law Clerk to Judge Robert H. McWilliams on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit from 1975-1976. Originally, he intended to work for the oil and gas industry, but after getting involved in bankruptcy law, he enjoyed it and became an American Bankruptcy Institute-Certified Bankruptcy Attorney in Denver and one of the most respected bankruptcy lawyers in Denver.

Cynthia Skeen grew up in Brush, Colorado and graduated cum laude from Colorado College. She received her law degree from the University of Denver in 1981, and was honored with the Order of St. Ives. She started working as a chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee. After founding the firm together, Matthew and Cynthia practiced in the bankruptcy courts for decades and were well known in the legal community.
